Our Legacy Since 1973
The World Taekwondo Academy was first established in South Korea in 1973 by Grand Master Woon Se Lee after retiring from the Korean army as an officer.
Grand Master Lee moved to the USA in 1989 with his family and opened World Taekwondo Academy in Olney, Maryland. He is still teaching classes daily at our Olney school.
Our school is celebrating its 52nd Anniversary and 37 years in Olney, MD this year. We are proud to be the oldest martial arts school still in operation in Olney today!
Meet Grand Master Lee
After retiring from the Korean army as an officer, Grand Master Lee served in Vietnam during his service in the late 60s and early 70s.
Grand Master Lee trained many national teams, military academies, and colleges in the 70s and 80s before bringing his unparalleled expertise to the USA.
Today, he continues to share his lifelong passion with the Olney community, helping students of all ages unlock their full physical and mental potential.
